Trump, Palin and Twitter, Oh My!
Former Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin Backs Donald Trump’s Campaign
Sarah Palin made a guest appearance at Donald Trump’s campaign in Ames, Iowa on Jan. 19. Not only did she make an appearance, Palin actually addressed the audience, saying she was “there to support the next President of the United States, Donald Trump.” According to CNN, Palin has always been a Republican favorite so this endorsement may just be what Trump needs to win the RNC’s nomination seeing as he is currently tied with fellow frontrunner Ted Cruz.
Cruz, who previously stated that no matter what he will still be a fan of Palin, thinks this endorsement just might backfire. Rick Tyler, Cruz’s spokesman, told CNN reporters, “I think it [would] be a blow to Sarah Palin, because Sarah Palin has been a champion for the conservative cause, and if she was going to endorse Donald Trump, sadly, she would be endorsing someone who [has] held progressive views all their life.” As imagined, this did not go over with the Palin family well, some of them- including Palin’s daughter, Bristol- took to Twitter to share their thoughts about the comments made.
Trump has yet to say, if elected as president, whether or not Palin will hold office. She has been asked about it, stating that she would love to take charge of the Department of Energy and focus efforts on relying on our own resources rather than importing from other countries. Palin also mentioned if she were to be in charge of that department, her end game would be to get rid of it entirely.
Alas, Palin’s blessing did not hold. According to Politco.com, Trump came second to Cruz, with 24.3% of the vote. He barely beat out Rubio, who had 23.1%, leaving Trump looking like a chump.
