Just Vote

A plea to vote in the upcoming election from a 16-year old’s perspective.

People want change; this election season has proved nothing but that. Never has it been more important for your voice to be heard. This is a serious time in history that needs not go unnoticed. One vote has the power to change history – change tomorrow, not today.
This election isn’t truly about you or your parents. The policies of our next president aren’t going to affect those voting: they affect us, the future generation. They affect the 17-year-olds who want to go to college and can’t afford it. They affect the young children in poverty who can’t afford any education at all. They affect cities like Flint, with children in poverty who need food and clean water. People need change.
Whoever our next president is, he or she will be our leader for the next four years. Within this time, high schoolers will be preparing for what and who they want to be for the rest of their lives. This election will create the path that students will be able to follow for their futures.
Our next president will hold the power to change our futures. Our next president will decide how colleges handle and prevent rape and sexual assault. They will have the ability to create safe and clean streets for all people, regardless of race, gender, sexuality or religion. They will make decisions about how students receive education and update the common core standards of teaching. They can make the changes needed for students to be happy and successful.
You can vote for a candidate who vows to make change, not erase it. Who you decide to elect as our next president will have the ability to change your future, your life.
This election is about us: future generations and the future of tomorrow. If you can vote, do not waste it. It is your choice to decide, but please, don’t be selfish. Do not choose who you want just because you don’t like their personality. Do not choose our future based on their likeability. Some of us cannot vote; some of us are completely reliant on others voting responsibly for us. Vote to protect the future of this country, this world. Use your vote to help us, the future generation .
No matter who you vote for, it is so important that you get out and vote. Voter turnout has continuously declined by nearly 30% and due to that, voter satisfaction and national approval ratings have also declined (according to electproject.org). If you want someone to be president, then it is your responsibility to vote for them. Your vote counts.
It is our responsibility to make a difference so our future – the future of our children, will. Everyone has the choice. It’s up to you to decide how your future and the future of your children will look like. No matter who you vote for, it’s important to not waste it.
On Nov. 8, it is your responsibility to vote for who you want to be our next president. You have the choice, so make the right one.
