Senior Starts Financial Podcast for Peers
Senior Joey Mason and his brother advise millennials on financial decisions on their podcast “Making Millennials Millionaires.”
Last October, senior Joey Mason and his brother Chris started a finance podcast titled “Making Millennial Millionaires.” They aim to give viewers tips for starting up their own businesses and investing, all with the goal of making millions.
Mason and his brother got the idea from listening to other podcasts.
“Me and my brother started listening to podcasts, comedy ones and some investing ones, and we thought it’d be a cool idea to start one from our perspective on business,” Mason said.
It’s possible that listeners may be weary about getting advice from a senior in high school and recent college graduate, but Mason says they have the credentials that are necessary for good advice.
“My brother is in real estate investing,” Mason said. “He’s 27 and has two properties, which is kind of unheard of for a kid coming right out of college. I started my own business printing t-shirts, so I talk about the stuff I encountered through that.”
The podcast targets those who became adults at the start of the 21st century, and Joey and Chris advise them with the help of interviews.
“[Our audience] is mainly millennials, people my age and a little older, like my brother’s age,” Mason said. “We look at people who have already ‘made it’ financially and are successful and follow their footsteps or take tips and tricks from them and share them.”
Mason says his guests guide the podcasts with their knowledge and experience.
“Jon Thomas is one of them,” Mason said. “He left corporate and started his own business, and he gave us tips on how to do that. Another guy we had is an investment researcher, so he knows a little more about money and the financial side.”
Thomas is the owner of a local lawn irrigation service and discussed the importance of setting a goal and working towards it. He says he thinks the podcast is a great idea.-
“I think what Joey and Chris are doing with the Making Millennial Millionaires podcast is awesome,” Thomas said. “They are capitalizing on the opportunities of social media networking and providing valuable content to their subscribers. It’s a chance for everybody to follow their journey and also pick up some new knowledge along the way.”
Mason says his podcast focuses on using other people’s success as a model.
“The advice that I can give is how to start up and get through all the paperwork and find funds to start,” Mason said. “But the premise is to find people to interview that have already made it and pick their brain and share it with our audience.”
