Behind the Scenes of the Homecoming Parade
Homecoming parade displays extracurricular activities
The annual homecoming parade was held Friday, Sept. 28 at 5:30 p.m., starting from Boulan Park Middle School and ending at Troy High. The parade is a showcase of Troy High’s clubs, sports teams and other extracurricular groups, along with the homecoming court and the class floats.
“[This year] our grand marshals are [former Troy High student] Ashley Easterbrook’s parents, who have helped donate a lot to Troy High,” junior Molly Myers said. “They’ve provided a very generous scholarship at the Honors Convocation, [and are also] helping to redo and refurbish the autotech lab.”
The homecoming theme this year was “The Great American Road Trip.” The seniors designed a Las Vegas-themed float, with a slot machine and a “Too Fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada” backdrop. The juniors’ float was created using Hollywood-themed decorations. The sophomores had a New York City-themed float, with a Statue of Liberty and a Broadway sign. The freshman float was Detroit-themed.
“We picked some pieces that truly capture the essence of Detroit, like Motown Studios and Ford Field, and we got representation of all the sports teams—we’re all wearing jerseys,” freshman Sarayu Bethamcherla said.
As the floats, homecoming court cars, clubs and sports teams marched down Northfield Parkway, Troy families lined the street in show of communal support.
