DWD: Done With Drama
Behind the scenes of the Don’t Worry Darling scandal.
On Sept. 4, 2022, the new movie Don’t Worry Darling premiered at the Venice Film Festival. This new thriller directed by Olivia Wilde not only became popular from the talented cast, but all of the drama that came into view. It all started with Florence Pugh, who didn’t show up to the press before the premiere. Pugh is the one of the lead protagonists, along with Harry Styles. Pugh’s absence at the press conference was originally blamed on her opinion of director Olivia Wilde.
Wilde was also bashed for her decisions after actor Shia LaBeouf left the cast and was replaced by Harry Styles, who is dating Olivia Wilde. When asked about LaBeouf, Wilde dismissed the questions, despite all the rumors surrounding him. Throughout the night, Styles and Wilde were very tense; Styles would not go near Wilde, even when she would try to talk to him.
Senior Erin Breidenich had some strong opinions on Wilde’s behavior at the film festival, “I never really liked Olivia that much, but it changed a lot after hearing about all the drama.”
Breidenich also explained her opinion regarding the rumor of Harry Styles spitting on Chris Pine.
“I don’t think he’s the type of person to do that,” says Breidenich.
Sophomore Stella Galbraith backs up Breidenich’s claim, saying, “Although it looks like he did, I genuinely don’t think he did.”
Some fans, following the previous drama, truly believe Styles did spit on Chris Pine. However, Pine’s representatives issued a statement to Variety saying that the rumors were just a “ridiculous story” and “a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows for foolish speculation.”
Although all of this gossip made its way around, it seemed to die down closer to the movie’s release date of Sept. 23, 2022, leaving fans wondering if it was a way to promote the film. The actual events of the Venice Film Festival may remain unknown.
