About Us

MISSION STATEMENT:

The Chariot is a student-produced news publication that publishes information relevant to the times as well as material that is essential to the overall well-being of its readers.  It is The Chariot’s responsibility to cover school, city, state, national and international events and issues that affect the concerns of the campus, its students and its readers.

The Chariot operates as a designated public forum for student expression.  The Editorial Board, consisting of student editors, is the sole decision-making and policy-setting body of The Chariot and has final say over all content decisions.  The adviser and administration have non-review roles and may offer advice on sensitive issues and will offer criticisms as warrant but the Editorial Board reserves all rights to determine what material shall be published.

MEMBERSHIP:

The Chariot is a member of the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association (MIPA) and Journalism Education Association (JEA).

AWARDS:

In 2020, The Chariot received a Gold Medal Recognition in Newspaper and a Silver Medal Recognition in News Website from MIPA.  The staff received over 18 individual awards.

During the 2019-2020 school year, four articles won Best of SNO awards, and the website received badges for Story Page Excellence and Site Excellence.
