New Movies This Fall

Troy’s MJR Theater is going to start flooding with people this coming fall and winter due to dozens of new movies coming out. According to MovieInsider.com, the end of 2017 is going to be the time to go to the movies. Senior and MJR Grand Digital Cinema 16 employee Andrea King says she and her fellow employees expect it to get busy, and she expects ticket sales to reflect that.

“I don’t think movie sales will be that high for the next couple of weeks, but I think starting November it will get busier because there are a lot of big movies coming out for the holiday season,” King said.

Movies that are expected to attract a number of different audiences are Bill Nye: Science Guy, My Friend Dahmer and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

Many students are excited about the release of upcoming sequels from movies of many genres including Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Daddy’s Home 2 and Pitch Perfect 3.

“I’m super excited to see Luke in it and to see Carrie Fisher because this was her last movie she filmed before she died. She’s one of my favorite characters in the movie,” senior Delayne Richie said.

According to the New York Times, around 700 Hollywood movies get released each year on average, and about 20 percent of them end up having record-passing sales. MJR usually shows around 175 different titles per month, but this holiday season, they expect to greatly surpass that number.

“I think there’s maybe one or two movies that get released every month that are bigger and one every couple of months that makes us busier,” King said.

Despite the occasional surge of business, King says that she enjoys working at MJR.

“Some people are a little iffy about it, but I like the environment and the people there,” King said

King is also looking forward to future releases.

“I’m really excited for the new Pixar movies coming in November,” King said. “I really like Pixar and Disney movies, and I think they’re going to be good.
