RISE, a Christian club, is getting revamped. Membership has increased from roughly 20 members to 50 in the past year. The club holds Rise and Shine meetings on Monday mornings, during which members pray together. The last Friday of every month is going to feature an extra meeting coined, “Rise Again,” in which members devote another morning to prayer.

The morning assemblies are one way RISE is incorporating modern religious practices into the club. A new objective is to keep students from feeling hesitant to join because of stereotypes that can accompany a religious club.

“Sometimes religion is thought of as nerdy,” senior Isabella Cueny said. “But I hope more people will join.”

Club members are looking for ways to expand their reach out to the community in a more modern way. They recently hosted a breakfast for the teaching staff. In addition, they are also looking into food donation projects in Detroit to continue practicing religion by spreading acts of goodwill.

“We’re just a group of people who love Jesus who want other people to share that with,” senior club leader Emma Bossenberger said.

RISE is also striving to connect to the wider Christian community. On Sept. 27, 50 students met at the flagpole to participate in the national prayer event See You At the Pole.

“My favorite part was seeing so many people at the pole,” advisor Joan Stratman said.

RISE continues to attract new members as they grow in their faith as one united whole.
