New Attractions in Troy

Several new stores, including both restaurants, like Shake Shack, and stores, like Zara, have opened around the city for the season.

Troy’s business presence is expanding every day, and new storefronts are being added every year. Shake Shack opened on Oct. 25 with several burgers on the menu, including the Classic ShackBurger and the Shroom Burger. Concretes, which according to their website is dense frozen custard ice cream blended at high speed with mix-ins, is Shake Shack’s major selling point and are an invaluable part of their menu. Troy has also been given a signature shake, Concrete of Troy, which contains vanilla custard, salted caramel sauce, Zingerman’s Buenos Aires dulce de leche brownie and chocolate sprinkles. Other features of the restaurant include tabletops made from old bowling alley lanes in the area and eco-friendly architecture.

Whole Foods has moved from a 21,000 square-foot location to a 46,000 square-foot market on the border of Troy and Birmingham. Besides the typical produce section, there have been other additions such as the Maple Road Taproom that features made-to-order breakfast, lunch and dinner options The bacon breakfast bowl, Beyond Meat vegan burger, smoked chicken sausage, poutine and Nashville chicken are some items on the menu. Other innovations include Gelato Cupcakes & Cookie Sandwiches, Smoked Seafood and Real Good Juice Co. Bar.

“Whole Foods Market has been serving the Troy and Birmingham communities for many years in a relatively small store,” Midwest Regional President Michael Bashaw said. “During that time, we’ve been very grateful for the strong support we’ve received from the community.”

The new store operates from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. every day.

Somerset will be adding more than 15 stores to the collection over the course of the next year. Zara, a Spanish retail store for men, women and children, is a recently-constructed two-level, 30,822 square foot store that sells shoes and cocktail and bohemian-style dresses, faux fur, sweaters, plaid, shoes and much more trending apparel.

Somerset has also given Tesla a 700 square-foot room so shoppers can preview new car models. Tesla’s showroom is located next to the Apple Store on the first floor. Customers can browse the vehicles with Tesla staff members but cannot discuss pricing or test drives in-store because of the law stating that “new cars being sold through franchised dealers has been declared unconstitutional.” Tesla staff members made no comment on the subject. Because of this law, Tesla directs you to go online for pricing, ordering and requesting test drives.

Some other new stores are Timberland, Rolex, Lovesac—which sells high-quality bean bags and bean bag chairs–See’s Candies and Verizon Wireless.
