Students start their own YouTube channels and find a new hobby to explore

With over 300 hours worth of content uploaded to YouTube every minute, viewers can find anything from music videos to makeup tutorials. Some students have started producing their own videos on the social media platform.

“The people that make the videos get to do whatever they want, and viewers can watch the type of videos that they enjoy watching,” sophomore Ian Watson said. “There’s a whole lot of different stuff for different viewers to watch.”

Watson started his own channel two years ago. He started out acting but found that YouTube would make a better place for him.

“I like to entertain people and make them laugh,” Watson said. “I figured I could do that on YouTube.”

Freshman Noah Jaisinghani has some of the same reasons for keeping up his 3-year-old channel. He said he saw other people start channels and wanted to make his own funny videos.

“I thought I was funny, and I wanted to make other people laugh,” Jaisinghani said. “I shared [my videos] because I thought people would like it, and they did, so I just kept doing it.”

Another YouTuber is senior Anya Welborn. She made a few autonomous sensory meridian response videos, better known as ASMR videos. Additionally, she also made a few vlogs and advice videos.

“I like that people can put out a variety of content,” Welborn said. “There’s such a variety of stuff there.”

Senior Biance Lynn has a YouTube channel as well, but she hasn’t used it very much in the past few years. She still advises anyone who’s considering starting a channel to give it a try. YouTube is filled with a wide range of content. Viewers can find skits and gaming videos from a host of people with diverse backgrounds. Some YouTubers have as many as 54 million subscribers and billions of views. While it may take awhile, Lynn encourages people to just do it.

“[Try not to] care what people think because at the end of the day, if it makes you happy, you should just do it,” Lynn said.

Watson has the same sentiment and encourages people to just keep posting videos.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Watson said. ”If you think you’d enjoy [making videos], you should try it out. Your channel will grow just from posting videos.”
